KARIMNAGAR: In a bizarre and unusual incident, an unmarried man in Nagireddypur village of Gangadhara mandal, Karimnagar district, rushed into marriage hoping to contest the upcoming gram panchayat election, only to miss a crucial deadline.

The post of sarpanch in Nagireddypur is reserved for an SC woman. Muche Shankar, an eager political aspirant who was still unmarried, decided to marry a woman from Nalgonda district and planned to add her name to the village voter list so she could contest the election.

The State Election Commission issued the election notification on Tuesday. In a race against time, Shankar married the woman in a temple on Wednesday. However, his application to enrol his wife's name in the voter list was submitted too late, and her name did not make it to the official rolls.

Shankar, who had expected his plan to succeed, was left shocked and disappointed as the last-minute effort ended in failure.
