Hyderabad: AI-enabled drones and nearly 5,000 CCTV cameras will be deployed across the Malkajgiri police commissionerate for real-time surveillance during Ganesha Chaturthi celebrations and idol immersions from September 14 to 25, police commissioner B. Sumathi said.

More than 15,000 Ganesh idols are expected to be installed across the commissionerate this year, about 10 per cent more than last year. The newly formed Malkajgiri Commissionerate, created after the reorganisation of the erstwhile Rachakonda Commissionerate, will oversee the festival for the first time as a full-fledged urban commissionerate.

"Around 5,000 CCTV cameras will also be used at important locations, while organisers of pandals, particularly those measuring 10 feet and above, have been encouraged to install surveillance cameras," Sumathi said.

Around 5,749 police personnel of various ranks will be deployed for security and law-and-order duties, besides approximately 1,200 traffic personnel. Four TGSP platoons will also be stationed at sensitive locations.

Police identified key procession points, including Uppal X Road, LB Nagar X Road, Habsiguda, Rampally, Kushaiguda, ECIL X Road, Malkajgiri, Neredmet, Paradise, Patny, Maredpally, CTO, Rasoolpura, YMCA and Tirumalgiri.

Sumathi said, "Around 27 immersion locations have been identified, including Shamirpet Lake, Saroornagar Lake, Rampally Lake, Uppal Baby Pond, Edulabad Tank and Safilguda Baby Pond. Police expect around 25,000 idols to be immersed this year, while nearly 9,000 idols are expected to enter Hyderabad city limits through Patny, Begumpet and YMCA."
