Telangana Prioritises Farmers’ Welfare, Allocates ₹23,179 Crore for Agriculture

Reaffirming its focus on the farm sector, the Telangana government has announced a major push for agriculture and farmers’ welfare, with a budget outlay of ₹23,179 crore.

The government said Telangana continues to lead the country in agricultural yields, backed by sustained support measures for farmers. Under the Rythu Bharosa, farmers are being provided investment assistance of ₹6,000 per acre per season, amounting to ₹12,000 annually for two crops.

To ensure remunerative prices, the State is offering an incentive of ₹500 per quintal for fine variety paddy. With an average yield of about 25 quintals per acre, farmers are estimated to earn an additional ₹12,500 per acre per season, translating to ₹25,000 annually for two crops.

During 2024–25, paddy cultivation covered over 1.27 crore acres, producing 284.16 lakh metric tonnes. Telangana also exported 22,750 metric tonnes of rice to the Philippines, boosting demand and improving price realisation for farmers.

The government is also focusing on crop diversification, with horticulture spread across 13 lakh acres. Priority is being given to crops such as mango, custard apple, chilli, turmeric, and orange. Oil palm cultivation is currently undertaken by over 79,000 farmers across 2.9 lakh acres, with plans to expand by another 68,000 acres.

Additionally, micro-irrigation methods will be implemented across 2.34 lakh acres to improve water efficiency and productivity.

Officials said the initiatives aim to enhance farmers’ income, ensure sustainability, and strengthen Telangana’s position as a leading agricultural State.
