Land Acquisition Hits RK Puram ROB, RUB Projects
Residents and commuters said the RoB continued to witness heavy traffic, particularly during peak hours.
Hyderabad:The additional three-lane road overbridge (ROB) and road underbridge (RUB) project at Ramakrishnapuram (RK Puram). aimed at improving connectivity and easing congestion, is still in the land-acquisition stage with verification of transferable development rights (TDR) applications under way for affected properties.
The additional structure were intended to provide grade-separated connectivity at RK Puram and improve movement between Trimulgherry and eastern suburbs such as AS Rao Nagar and ECIL.
According to information from the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC), 38 properties would be affected by the RoB, of which 33 owners had submitted applications for TDR. In the case of the additional RuB, eight properties were affected and three owners had submitted TDR applications. Verification of the applications was underway, an official said.
The project comprises a 640-metre, three-lane additional RoB to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 210 crore, while the 40-metre additional RuB was estimated to cost Rs 35 crore and would be executed by the railways.
An official said the land-related process would be completed soon, following which the project would be taken forward. The project has a target completion date of December 2027, making timely completion of the land-acquisition process crucial.
Residents and commuters said the RoB continued to witness heavy traffic, particularly during peak hours.
Venkat Raj, a resident of Sainiknagar, said traffic remained heavy in the area until around 11 am and again during the evening. He said he was aware of the proposed RoB and the notices issued in connection with land acquisition.
A. Vinay Kumar, who uses the route to travel to his office, said the lack of lane separation on the RoB was causing considerable inconvenience. “When traffic volume increases, vehicles often encroach into the opposite lane, creating chaos and forcing commuters to wait longer,” he said.
Another commuter, Balraju, a private employee, said traffic coming from the AS Rao Nagar and ECIL sides created a bottleneck at the end of the RoB, leading to longer waiting times. He urged officials to expedite the proposed works to ease traffic congestion in the area.
Social activist Robin Zobichuess, expressed concern about the possible impact of the ongoing RoB works at Vajpayeenagar on traffic movement around RK Puram. “Since the project has begun, the RK Puram work may be delayed as it is the main route to connect to Secunderabad. I don't think they will do both the projects at one go. It will disrupt the entire traffic flow,” he said.
