Hyderabad: A Kukatpally court has sentenced three men to life imprisonment in connection with a murder committed 16 years ago under the KPHB police station limits. Third Additional District Sessions Judge M. Venkateswara Rao awarded life imprisonment to Bonala Nagachari, Engannagari Venkatachari and Praveen Mandal.

According to KPHB police, Mohan Naidu of KPHB 4th Phase was friends with the three accused. Mohan had allegedly taken Rs.20,000 from Nagachari after promising to arrange a house for him under the Rajiv Gruhakalpa housing scheme.

However, Mohan neither arranged the house nor returned the money and allegedly began threatening Nagachari.

On the night of December 14, 2010, Nagachari, Venkatachari and Praveen took Mohan to KPHB 4th Phase to consume alcohol. During a quarrel, Praveen and Venkatachari allegedly restrained Mohan while Nagachari shot him in the head with a pistol.

Police said the accused then robbed the gold ornaments from Mohan’s body, placed the body in the boot of a car and buried it in a forest area on the outskirts of Vallur in Medak district.

Mohan’s brother later lodged a missing-person complaint. The murder came to light after the accused were caught by police while travelling in a car with a pistol. Subsequent investigation established the involvement of the three accused in the killing, police said.
