Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Monday alleged that the government’s failure to secure the Centre’s approval for Metro Rail Phase-II was due to the “incompetent governance” of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. In a statement, Rama Rao claimed Revanth Reddy was unable to question the Centre because of the pending cash-for-vote case.

Rama Rao was responding to the Chief Minister's charge that he (Rama Rao) instigated Union minister G. Kishan Reddy to stop a refinancing loan the Indian Railways Finance Corporation loan to the state government to take over Metro Rail Phase-I.

Rama Rao said that the Chief Minister should apologise to the people of Hyderabad for jeopardising the future expansion of the Metro Rail network. “The people deserve answers on why approvals and financial support that were secured swiftly during the previous BRS government are now being delayed under the Congress administration,” he said. Revanth Reddy should also explain to the people why cities in Uttar Pradesh as well as Ahmedabad and Visakhapatnam, had received Metro Rail projects from the Centre while Hyderabad did not, Rama Rao said.

On the claims that L&T did not agree to take part in Metro Phase-II, Rama Rao alleged that the Revanth Reddy government had intimidated the company, created fear, as part of a conspiracy to drive it away in order “to seize Metro assets worth Rs 30,000 crore and valuable land in the heart of the city.
