Krishnaiah Demands Separate BC Ministry, Higher Quotas in Centre

HYDERABAD: BJP Rajya Sabha member and BC Welfare Association president R. Krishnaiah on Tuesday demanded a separate ministry for the Backward Classes (BCs) communities at the Centre, along with reservations in promotions for employees from the community and quota benefits for BCs in the private sector.
Leading a protest at Jantar Mantar near Parliament, Krishnaiah said the absence of a dedicated ministry was affecting Budget allocations, scholarships and welfare schemes for the community. He also urged the Centre to amend the Constitution to raise reservations for the BC community in education and jobs from 27 to 56 per cent, and increase panchayat reservations from 22 per cent to 50.
The demonstration drew sarpanches, ZPTCs, MPTCs, caste association leaders and community activists from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka.
