Medchal: Retired Prof Couple Drugged And Robbed By Nepali Gang In Kowkoor

The victims, Muralidhar Mohan, 68, and his wife Dr. Vijayalakshmi, 58, were tied up and confined at their residence in Kowkoor Golf Enclave by an eight-member gang.

Medchal Malkajgiri: In a second major robbery involving a Nepali gang in a week, a retired professor couple was drugged and robbed of 75 tolas of gold, 20 kg of silver, Rs 30,000 cash, and 3,000 US dollars at their home in Jawahar Nagar on Tuesday.

The victims, Retired Professor N Muralidhar Mohan, 68, and his wife Dr. Vijayalakshmi, 58, were reportedly tied up and confined at their residence in Kowkoor Golf Enclave by an eight-member gang. The incident comes days after Hyderabad City police launched a manhunt for a Nepali domestic help and her associates in the murder-cum-robbery of retired IPS officer Vinay Ranjan Ray’s wife in Jubilee Hills.

Police said a Nepali couple had joined the household as domestic workers around 20 days ago and gradually gained the elderly couple’s trust. On Monday night (May 11), the workers sought permission to celebrate the birthday of a woman known to them at the residence to which the couple agreed. During the gathering, three more people arrived claiming to be relatives. While the couple was having dinner, the accused staged a cake-cutting and then suddenly overpowered them. The gang tied their hands and threatened them. Fearing for their lives, the victims told them to take their valuables and not hurt them.

The accused allegedly forced them to consume drugs, locked the couple in a room, secured all gates, and fled. The victims remained unconscious until Tuesday afternoon. After gaining consciousness, Murali Mohan raised an alarm from a window and was rescued by locals rescued them.

Reports state that the gang removed CCTV cameras and electrical connections and dumped them in water to destroy evidence. They hired an auto and fled after the robbery, and are believed to have escaped to Nepal from Delhi.

Malkajgiri Police Commissioner Sumati visited the crime scene. A case has been registered, and special teams have been formed to trace the absconding suspects.
