Jagan Appears Before Nampally Court
Jagan Mohan Reddy arrived in Hyderabad around 10.30 am on Thursday at the Begumpet airport and, in compliance with the court order, proceeded directly to the Nampally court complex.
Hyderabad: YSR Congress president and AP former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday appeared before the CBI court at Nampally, as previously directed, after returning from his Europe tour. It was after a gap of nearly six years that the YSRC leader before the special court for CBI cases which is hearing 11 quid pro quo cases filed against him.
Jagan Mohan Reddy arrived in Hyderabad around 10.30 am on Thursday at the Begumpet airport and, in compliance with the court order, proceeded directly to the Nampally court complex.
He reached the court at 11.15 am amid heavy security arrangements.
The court had earlier directed Reddy to appear before it in person on November 14 after his return from Europe. He had filed a petition seeking exemption from personal appearance and stated that he would appear through video conference.
The CBI had opposed it, saying Reddy's appearance was mandatory as per the last order of the court and that he should comply with it.
Subsequently, the court extended the directions for a week, and ordered that Jagan Mohan Reddy personally attend the proceedings by November 21.
In compliance with the court's order, Reddy on Thursday appeared before the court and marked his presence in the batch of cases. The hearing in the cases including the discharge petitions which are going on will continue on a daily basis.
The cases relate to investments made by various companies in his firms as quid pro quo for different favours bestowed on them during the tenure of his father, late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, as Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh between 2004 and 2009. Jagan Mohan Reddy Reddy is currently out on bail in the cases.
After completing the formalities at the court, he left for his Lotus Pond residence in Banjara Hills.
Advocates, litigants, and nearby business establishments faced inconvenience as police instructed vendors and shop owners to shut down temporarily. Traffic movement was severely affected for a couple of hours due to restrictions imposed in the area.
The stretch leading to the court was temporarily closed, with barricades set up around Nampally. Police were deployed in large numbers, and vehicles were restricted from entering the vicinity. Central zone DCP Koganti Silpavalli personally supervised the security arrangements.
Following Jagan Mohan Reddy’s arrival in Hyderabad, YSRC cadres gathered at Begumpet airport, the Nampally court premises, and Lotus Pond. This marked his first appearance before the court in six years.
