Hyderabad: The organisers of the International Real Estate Conference (IREC) 2026 and Luxury Expo adopted a one-horned rhinoceros for a period of three months at Nehru Zoological Park on Saturday. The Hyderabad Realtors Association presented a cheque to zoo curator J. Vasantha for the purpose. Dr Vasantha appreciated the support and said such partnerships not only helped the zoo improve animal care, but also sent a powerful message to the business community that protecting wildlife was integral to building truly sustainable urban environments.

Online applns invited from BC women for free automatic sewing machines

Hyderabad: Backward Classes community women aged from 18 to 55 years can apply for free automatic sewing machines, via the 'TGOBMMS' online portal by September 30. Hyderabad district collector Dr Priyanka Ala announced that 15,000 automatic sewing machines would be distributed, with 1,000 machines allocated to each of the 15 Assembly constituencies in the district. She noted that each machine is valued at `12,000 and is being provided by the government free of cost.

Rs 20,000 Penalty imposed on a woman in Jubilee Hills for wasting drinking water

Hyderabad: The HMWS&SB imposed a penalty of Rs 20,000 on a woman staying in Road No. 23 Jubilee Hills for wasting drinking water. The board said the resident was misusing drinking water for cleaning floors. Emphasising that drinking water was a precious resource, the HMWS&SB urged the public to use it responsibly and avoid wastage. The vboard clarified that strict action will be taken in accordance with regulations if drinking water is misused for other purposes. HMWS&SB urged people to report any instances of drinking water misuse to its WhatsApp number: 99499 30003.

AIMES, COMI Seek GHMC intervention in notices issued to schools

HYDERABAD: The All India Muslim Educational Society (AIMES) and Confederation of Minority Institutions (COMI) on Saturday sought the government intervention over GHMC issuing showcause notices to long-established schools operating in residential areas asking that no action disrupt classes or examinations and that each case be examined separately before schools are asked to relocate.

M.S. Farooq, advocate, AIMES general secretary and COMI president, said the organisations had received representations from schools over notices alleging violations of permitted building use and zoning rules. He said several institutions had operated from the same premises for three or four decades, or longer.

“Educational institutions which have been functioning peacefully for three or four decades and, in many cases, even longer cannot reasonably be expected to change their premises suddenly during an ongoing academic year,” Farooq said.

He also questioned where such schools could move if asked to vacate and whether GHMC or the government had identified affordable and accessible educational zones in Hyderabad. Neighbourhood schools, he said, also reduce travel for children and parents.

The organisations referred to Supreme Court proceedings in ‘Loganathan v. State of Tamil Nadu & Ors’, which they said directed municipal authorities in state and Union Territory capitals to inquire into residential properties used for non-residential purposes. “AIMES and COMI are not asking that the law be ignored,” Farooq said, adding that genuine safety violations or illegal constructions could be acted upon according to law. He argued, however, that the order should not result in automatic action against every long-established school.

 CMC Proposes Bridge Along Bandam Kommu Lake In Ameenpur

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has proposed to construct a bridge along Bandam Kommu lake in Ameenpur. A drone survey and consultancy study will be taken up in the Ameenpur area to execute major nala works, including proposed box drains and retaining walls, under the Strategic Nala Development Plan (SNDP) Phase-3. The existing culvert on Nallagandla surplus nala near Jyothi theatre will be examined for widening, and diversion of sewage water from entering into the lake will be taken up by the HMWS&SB. The CMC will coordinate with the National Highway authorities regarding the requested Foot Over Bridge (FOB) to execute the SNDP Phase-3 works, a statement said.

FDDI Hyderabad’s Industry Conclave 2026 Focuses On Closer industry-academia ties

HYDERABAD: FDDI Hyderabad’s Industry Conclave 2026 on Saturday focused on closer industry-academia ties, workplace-ready skills and institutional partnerships, with representatives from companies, educational institutions and government taking part in discussions and an MoU signing ceremony.

The conclave was organised under the theme “Bridging Talent, Building Partnerships” and opened with an address and institutional presentation by FDDI Hyderabad Executive Director Dr Narsimhugari Tej Lohit Reddy, IAS. FDDI chairman and AFPL Global founder Rajendra Kumar Jalan also addressed the inaugural session.

Two panels discussed India’s design and manufacturing capabilities and ways colleges and companies could work together on student skills and workplace exposure. Speakers came from organisations including Flipkart, Salesforce, NID, NIFT Hyderabad, Pepe Jeans and Woxsen University. A government session included representatives associated with TGIIC, DGFT, NIMSME, WE HUB and the MSME ecosystem. The programme also included MoU signings for institutional collaboration.
