Internal Discord Surfaces in Jagtial BJP
Senior party leaders had been staying away from party activities in a protest over such unilateral decisions, he said, adding that the meeting was organised to unite senior leaders and cadre.
Karimnagar:Internal differences in the Jagtial BJP came to the fore with a group of party leaders holding a meeting to oppose the alleged unilateral decisions of Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Arvind.
Around 200 party leaders and activists, who have been working for the BJP for a long time, attended the meeting at Surabhi farmhouse in Regunta of Mallapur mandal on Saturday. Senior party leaders Morapalli Satyanarayana Rao and Surabhi Naveen Kumar led the meeting.
A senior party leader said the meeting was organised over Arvind’s alleged unilateral decisions. Party sources said some leaders had brought the MP’s decisions to the notice of the party high command, but there was response.
Arvind, he alleged, was neglecting senior party leaders and encouraging his supporters and newly joined members by setting aside party procedures. He also alleged that the MP was taking independent decisions without consulting the state party leadership, which was against party norms.
“The district president was normally elected after seeking the views of mandal and town committees. Instead, Arvind had recommended the name of sitting district president Rachakonda Yadagiri Babu, which the party had accepted, as he was the MP’s choice,” he added.
Another senior leader alleged that the district president had not previously served as a mandal or town president. Arvind, he said, replaced some mandal and town presidents with his supporters.
Senior party leaders had been staying away from party activities in a protest over such unilateral decisions, he said, adding that the meeting was organised to unite senior leaders and cadre.
The leaders said the meeting was not against the BJP and that they aim at winning the Jagtial, Korutla and Dharmapuri Assembly constituencies in the next election.
