Adilabad municipal chairman Bandari Anusha on Monday postponed the election of co-option members after Congress, BRS and MIM councillors staged a protest demanding an inquiry into alleged encroachment of government and assigned lands by Adilabad MLA Payal Shankar.

Anusha told the media that the councillors came to the podium during the meeting and demanded that an inquiry be conducted before the election of co-option members. Payal Shankar is an ex-officio member of the Adilabad Municipality.

The councillors demanded that the election be held only after an inquiry into the alleged encroachment of government lands worth hundreds of crores at different places in the municipality by the MLA.

Anusha said there was no scope to conduct the meeting for the election of co-option members.

The councillors also alleged that Payal Shankar had encroached on government land worth `500 crore behind the RIMS hospital. Later, Congress, MIM and BRS councillors staged a protest by displaying placards highlighting the alleged land encroachment.
