WARANGAL: Warangal Central Crime Station and Hanamkonda police arrested a two-member inter-state chain-snatching gang from Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, recovering 95 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs 15.20 lakh, a motorcycle and two mobile phones.

The accused were identified as Kalyana Sundaram, 30, and Selvaraj, 28, both natives of Madurai. According to Warangal Police Commissioner Sunpreet Singh, Sundaram is a repeat offender who, along with Selvaraj, allegedly planned the offences to fund substance use and personal expenses.

Police said the duo arrived in Warangal last month and began by stealing a motorcycle under Mattewada police station limits. Using the vehicle, they carried out four chain snatchings in the tri-city area, two in Subedari and one each in Hanamkonda and Kakatiya University limits, in addition to a robbery in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh.

On the directions of Central Zone DCP Dara Kavitha, special teams tracked the accused using surveillance inputs and intercepted them near Hanamkonda bus stand. Police said the suspects tried to flee but were apprehended. During interrogation, they confessed to five snatchings and the vehicle theft. Both have been remanded to judicial custody.

In a separate case, Hanamkonda police arrested two 19-year-old youths, Bingi Raghu alias Sonu and Mohammad Asad, for a series of burglaries in the city.

Police recovered property worth about Rs 10 lakh, including 35 grams of gold, Rs 2 lakh in cash, laptops, cameras, mobile phones and other electronic items.

According to the Commissioner, the accused allegedly committed thefts to fund substance use. Investigations indicated Raghu’s involvement in cases in Kothur, Kumarpally and Srinagar Colony, while Asad was linked to a house burglary in Kazipet.

The duo was tracked through surveillance and apprehended near Hanamkonda bus stand. They confessed during questioning and were remanded to judicial custody.
