Inter-District Robbery Gang Arrested, Gold Jewellery Worth ₹22 Lakh Recovered
Mainly targeting elderly persons and women within the limits of police stations along the national highway: Police
NALGONDA: In a joint operation, the Central Crime Station (CCS) and Kattangur police on Friday arrested two members of an inter-district robbery gang allegedly involved in a series of robberies and chain-snatching cases. Police recovered 75 grams of gold jewellery worth `22 lakh from their possession.
The accused were arrested at Nalgonda X Road in Kattangur mandal. They were identified as Pakala Dharma Teja (35), a native of Chinna Beerelli village in Bonakal mandal of Khammam district, and Syed Ramzan Vali (27), a resident of LB Centre in Nandigama of NTR district in Andhra Pradesh.
Another gang member, Sheik Chand Pasha (28), a native of Ravinuthala village in Bonakal mandal of Khammam district, had already been arrested by Kattangur police on May 16.
Presenting the accused before the media at the District Police Office in Nalgonda, superintendent of police Sharath Chandra Pawar said the gang had been involved in a series of robberies and chain-snatching incidents, mainly targeting elderly persons and women within the limits of police stations along the national highway. He said the gang had committed three offences within Kethepally police station limits in 2026.
Explaining the gang’s modus operandi, the SP said the accused targeted elderly persons walking alone along highways and women travelling to villages due to poor bus connectivity, particularly between 5 pm and 9 pm. The gang allegedly robbed victims of gold jewellery and valuables by threatening and physically assaulting them.
Police said the gang members were involved in 18 cases of dacoity, robbery and chain-snatching reported in Khammam, Kodad, Suryapet and Choutuppal areas over the past five years.
