Hyderabad: A 27-year-old postgraduate medical student was found dead under suspicious circumstances in a hotel room in Miyapur on Friday. Her family has alleged that her friend, whom she befriended through Instagram, would have murdered her.

As per details shared by N. Jayaram, Station House Officer (SHO) at Miyapur Police Station, K Srujana, a native of Sangareddy district, was pursuing her first year PG in pediatrics at a medical college in Hanumakonda. She reportedly had made friends with one person named Ravi Kumar around seven years ago. In the course of their friendship, he is said to have taken a gold chain from her.
According to police, Ravi booked a room at a Miyapur lodge on September 29 and allegedly called her to Hyderabad by promising to return a gold chain he had taken from her. Believing him, Srujana travelled from Hanumakonda to the city. She arrived in Hyderabad on September 30 and subsequently went missing. When her parents and classmates could not reach Srujana, her parents approached the Hanumakonda police, who tracked Srujana's mobile phone location to Miyapur.
When the Miyapur Police were informed, they traced the location to a hotel near Hafeezpet and when the police officers opened the room, they found her body on the bed in a decomposed condition. It appeared that she was suffocated with a pillow and killed.
Based on a complaint from Srujana's father, K Bhumayya, Miyapur police registered a case, and the body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital for postmortem. Police suspect she died on September 30. Ravi's mobile phone was switched off soon afterwards.
Police said the exact cause of death will be known only after the postmortem report is received. Further investigation is on trace the alleged accused. Police are checking CCTV footage in the hotel in a bid to trace him
