Hyderabad: India Post is transforming into a modern, technology-enabled and citizen-centric service organisation while retaining its extensive physical network, said Telangana Circle Chief Postmaster General D.S.V.R. Murthy on Friday.

Addressing a press conference at Dak Sadan in Hyderabad to mark World Post Day, Murthy highlighted the postal department's transition from traditional communication services, such as inland letters and postcards, to technology-driven services.

He said that although communication had evolved with the advent of SMS, WhatsApp and email, the importance of personal connections remained unchanged. India Post continued to adapt to changing communication needs while maintaining its commitment to connecting people and delivering essential services.

The department will observe National Postal Week from October 9 to 15.

Highlighting its digital transformation, Murthy said the rollout of APT 2.0, an indigenously developed technology platform, marked a major milestone. DIGIPIN (Digital Postal Index Number), developed in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad and the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) of Isro, provides a standardised 10-character geocoded digital address reference.

Murthy said the 14 Post Office Passport Seva Kendras across Telangana handled 1,66,478 passport transactions during 2025-26 and another 87,100 transactions up to September 2026.

Similarly, the state's 263 Aadhaar centres recorded 4,75,592 transactions during 2025-26 and 3,17,146 transactions up to September this year.

The postal network also facilitates the monthly disbursement of Cheyutha pensions to around 20 lakh beneficiaries, involving approximately ₹500 crore.

The department is supporting Stree Nidhi by collecting self-help group loan repayments through branch post offices. Under its Holy Blessing initiative, thousands of prasadam consignments have been delivered to devotees' doorsteps.

As part of the National Postal Week celebrations, the department organised a letter-writing competition and presented prizes to the winners.
