Hydraa Holds Review Meeting for Removing Encroachments on Kukatpally Nala
Drain width has shrunk from 40 metres to nine metres in several stretches across industrial areas.
Hyderabad: HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath discussed the clean-up and encroachment removal works along the Kukatpally Nala in Balanagar and Fatehnagar during a review meeting with officials from the Cyberabad and Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) and representatives of the industrial cooperative societies.
Stormwater from Pariki Cheruvu and IDL lakes, along with stormwater from Foxsagar, converges into the Kukatpally nala, which flows towards the Hussainsagar.
Officials stated that in order to restrict flooding at the industrial areas, removing the silt and debris within the drain and removing encroachments raised on the drain line was important. The width of the 40-metre drain had shrunk to nine metres due to encroachments in several areas. About 2.2 kilometers of the drain fells under the CMC limits, and another 2 km under MMC limits at the industrial area.
Representatives of the industrial cooperative societies stated that they would cooperate with the authorities in clearing the encroachments. They urged officials to begin work at extremely flood-prone areas, and bring a permanent solution to the problem.
