Hyderabad Water Board Officials Praise Residents, Apartment Associations For Installing Recharge Pits, Injection Wells
The Water Board said the owners treated rainwater harvesting as more than a condition for obtaining an occupancy certificate and planned for future water needs.
HYDERABAD: Building owners Vinod and Bhashyam have constructed four recharge pits, exceeding the prescribed requirement, to conserve rainwater, recharge groundwater and keep their borewell functional during summer, the Water Board said in a statement on Saturday.
Each pit measures six feet by four feet and is six feet deep. Separate pipelines carry rainwater from the terrace into the pits, and the system is now fully operational.
The Water Board said the owners treated rainwater harvesting as more than a condition for obtaining an occupancy certificate and planned for future water needs. Board managing director K. Ashok Reddy praised residents and apartment associations across Gandhinagar, Yousufguda, Rock Town Colony, Manikonda, Bachupally, Kondapur, Nagole, Sanathnagar, Motinagar, Hayathnagar and Srinagar Colony for installing recharge pits and injection wells. “Rainwater conservation today is the foundation of tomorrow’s water security,” he said.
The board asked property owners to divert rooftop rainwater into recharge pits, soak pits or unused borewells to improve groundwater levels and reduce dependence on tankers.
