Hyderabad-Origin Dipika Damerla In Race For Mayor In Canada's Mississauga

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad-origin Dipika Damerla is running in the Mayoral elections in Mississauga, Canada. Born in Secunderabad, Dipika completed her MBA in Toronto and was elected to the Mississauga city council in 2018 and is in the race for Mayor of Mississauga.
A member of the Ontario Liberal Party, she won a tough 2011 nomination race to be the Liberal candidate for Mississauga East. In June 2014, Dipika was appointed as associate minister for the ministry of health and long-term care focusing on long-term care, and then succeeded as minister responsible for seniors affairs in a cabinet shuffle in June of 2016.
She represented the residents of Mississauga East-Cooksville as their Member of Provincial Parliament and as minister for seven years. Prior to entering politics, Dameria worked in corporate banking and ran a successful business in Mississauga. She is receiving widespread support from residents and voters in Mississauga, and is actively campaigning for her victory.
Damerla is drawing attention with her unique campaigning style in the mayoral race in Mississauga, Canada. She recently shared a video on X in which she can be seen singing a modified version of the popular Bollywood song ‘Kya Hua Tera Wada’ as part of her election campaign.
In the video, Damerla promises voters that property taxes will not increase on the day she becomes the Mayor of Mississauga. The video concludes with her campaign slogan, “A city that works,” along with an appeal to voters to support her.
According to the City of Mississauga's official website, Damerla served as the Ward 7 councillor in 2018.
