Hyderabad Art Week to Make Debut From October 26

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Art Week will make its debut from October 26 to November 1, with four city galleries planning a seven-day programme of contemporary art across Hyderabad.

week has been founded by Bhargavi Gundala of Dhi Contemporary, Supraja Rao of Kadari Art Gallery, Rekha Lahoti of Kalakriti Art Gallery and Lakshmi Nambiar of Srishti Art.

Rather than follow a conventional exhibition calendar, the organisers have planned “seven days, seven distinct encounters” that will move between artist studios, galleries and other spaces in the city.

The programme will include studio visits, gallery conversations, talks, performances, curated walkthroughs, collector gatherings, open studios and heritage experiences.

Galleries will also remain open after dark during Hyderabad Art Night, while the organisers plan to involve students, emerging artists, curators, collectors, designers, entrepreneurs and the wider public.

Unveiling the initiative, culture minister Jupally Krishna Rao said Hyderabad had “a tremendous history of art and culture” and that the government was happy to support initiatives that kept that heritage alive.

He also praised the four participating galleries for their work in art and public engagement.

The founders said the week would give people more opportunities to “discover art, meet artists, exchange ideas and engage with the cultural life of the city,” and they hoped it would become an annual date on Hyderabad’s cultural calendar.

The newly unveiled identity takes inspiration from Urdu letterforms and isometric geometry, using geometric forms with red and blue accents.

Organisers said the full programme, participating artists and collaborations would be announced shortly.
