Hyderabad: 47 Prajavani Complaints To Hydraa After Six-Week Hiatus Of Programme

HYDERABAD: Residents from several parts of Hyderabad raised concerns over flood risks, encroachments and lake protection during the HYDRAA Prajavani programme held on Monday. A total of 47 complaints were received during the Prajavani programme, which was restarted on Monday after a 6-week hiatus.
Several complainants highlighted the need for proper stormwater management and requested that floodwater channels be connected directly to lakes instead of being linked to drainage systems. They said flood water should flow naturally into lakes through properly designed channels to prevent waterlogging in residential colonies.
One of the major complaints came from residents of Pragathinagar, who expressed concern over the stormwater drains being constructed along the six-lane road connecting Miyapur and Gandimaisamma.
Complainants said that large stormwater drains on both sides of the road are being connected to much smaller pipelines in Pragathinagar, and raised concerns that a mismatch in capacity could lead to flooding of the colony during heavy rains.
In another complaint, residents of Telephone colony in Boduppal sought protection for a 1,166-square-yard park site. They alleged that repeated attempts were being made to encroach the park land and construct structures on it. Residents claimed that despite informing local authorities, no effective action had been taken and requested HYDRAA to safeguard the park.
Residents of secretariat colony in Neknampur sought demarcation and protection of their layout boundaries. They alleged that some individuals were gradually encroaching upon colony land, including roads and parks. They also requested that an unused overhead water tank site be preserved and developed for public use.
HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath reviewed all 47 complaints received during the Prajavani and directed officials to take necessary follow-up action.
