Hyderabad: LB Nagar ‘Suicide’ Turns Out To Be Murder
“The scene resembled suicide, but certain aspects required closer scrutiny”: Inspector
HYDERABAD: A suspicious death initially reported as death by suicide in LB Nagar turned into a murder investigation after evidence exposed what police described as a staged crime, leading to the arrest of the victim’s wife.
According to LB Nagar inspector K. Vinod Kumar, the case surfaced on June 20 when police received a Dial‑100 call about a man’s death in a rented house at NTR Nagar. A case of suspicious death was registered.
“The scene resembled suicide, but certain aspects required closer scrutiny,” the inspector said. The body was sent for postmortem at Osmania General Hospital, which ruled out hanging and confirmed death due to strangulation. The findings contradicted the wife’s claim of suicide.
During questioning, the victim’s 33‑year‑old wife confessed. Police said she was involved in an extramarital affair and had frequent disputes with her husband. Investigators alleged that during a quarrel on June 20, she overpowered him, sat on his chest and strangled him with a white chunni. To divert suspicion, she tied the body to an iron cot with the same cloth to portray suicide.
The accused was arrested near Alkapuri. Police seized the chunni and a mobile phone used to contact her alleged lover shortly after the incident. She was remanded to judicial custody. Investigators are probing whether others had knowledge of or involvement in the crime.
