HYDERABAD: The indefinite strike, launched by the owner-cum-drivers of vehicles hired for government departments, has entered its second day and is continuing peacefully across all 33 districts of Telangana. Telangana Four-Wheeler Drivers Association pointed out that thousands of owner-cum-drivers and their families are facing severe financial hardship due to low rental charges and delayed payments.
The association urged the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister to resolve the issue at the earliest through positive dialogue and immediate action. Despite submitting multiple representations to the transport minister, chief secretary, finance department, transport department and other senior officials, no concrete decision has been taken so far, it said.
Meanwhile, the Telangana App-Based Drivers Forum also gave an ultimatum that if the government and platform companies continue to ignore its legitimate demands, workers will be left with no option but to intensify their agitation.
The forum has announced a statewide flash strike on Wednesday and said that if the demands remain unresolved, it will go for an indefinite strike from 10th of August. The forum’s strike will be joined by cab drivers, autorickshaw drivers, goods transport drivers and delivery workers. Representatives of employees associated with Ola, Uber, Rapido, Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto, Blinkit and other digital platform companies are likely to participate.
