Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board— DC File

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has directed construction agencies to speed up works under the Godavari Drinking Water Supply Scheme phase-2 and phase-3 and complete the project by October 2027.

HMWS&SB managing director Ashok Reddy, who inspected the ongoing works on Wednesday, directed agencies to deploy additional working groups and increase manpower and machinery to take up construction simultaneously at multiple locations.

The project, being taken up at an estimated cost of ₹7,360 crore, is aimed at meeting Hyderabad’s future drinking water requirements. It will bring 20 tmc ft of Godavari water from Mallannasagar to Hyderabad, of which 17.50 tmc ft will be used for the Hyderabad’s drinking water needs and 2.50 tmc ft for the rejuvenation of Osmansagar, Himayatsagar and the Musi.

Ashok Reddy reviewed the construction of the 1,170 MLD water treatment plant at Ghanpur and directed officials to speed up the civil and technical works while maintaining quality standards.

He also reviewed the construction of the 80 million-litre master balancing reservoir (MBR) and instructed officials to coordinate the WTP, MBR and pipeline works so that they progress simultaneously. Under Packages 1 and 2, around 10 km of pipeline work has already been completed, officials informed the MD.
