GHMC Vigilance Finds Incomplete, Faulty Works
The GHMC's vigilance wing report mentioned loopholes in 20 works
Hyderabad: A construction project marked as complete was found to be incomplete. A swimming pool languishes without a water connection. A new road is getting damaged due to water pipeline leakage. These and other issues were flagged by a report of the GHMC’s vigilance wing, which examined work carried out by the GHMC's engineering wing.
These issues surfaced in projects for which bills were issued. The engineering wing primarily takes care of laying of new roads and their maintenance, as well as the construction of function halls, RCC box drains and other civil works.
The GHMC's vigilance wing report mentioned loopholes in 20 works. While some were marked as incomplete, in others discrepancies found. The inquiry was ordered by then GHMC commissioner K. Ilambarithi and the report was submitted to his successor R.V. Karnan.
Works for which bills were released in 2016-17, 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23 were probed.
The vigilance wing noted a ‘discrepancy’ in the construction of a community hall in Vinayaknagar in Malkajgiri circle. While the work status was mentioned as ‘completed’, the vigilance report found it incomplete despite Rs.19.71 lakh being approved for payment.
Another example of discrepancy was in the construction of a community hall in Patelguda, Hayathnagar circle. According to the report, there is a discrepancy in between the estimated work order and actual construction cost.
With regard to repairs and remodelling of a stormwater drain in Ramreddynagar in Habsiguda ward, the report mentioned that though the work was completed the nala was encroached upon by local households by constructing ramps.
For the swimming pool in Kattedan sports complex, there was no water supply connection.
Even after spending money on its construction, the pool was not operational due to payment issues with the HMWS&SB.
With regard to a cement concrete (CC) road in Monda Market ward of Secunderabad, the vigilance report said that the road was damaged due to leakage of a water pipeline.
