Four Booked Under PD Act In 387-Kg Ganja Haul

KAMAREDDY: Kamareddy police have invoked the Preventive Detention (PD) Act against two more accused in a ganja smuggling case involving the seizure of 387.128 kg of the contraband worth around ₹1.93 crore. With this, four accused in the case have so far been detained under the PD Act.
The latest detention orders were issued on Thursday against Mehrunnisa and Mohiddin Mustaq Syed, both from Maharashtra. On September 15, police had invoked the PD Act against Raju alias Rajkishore Pradhan and Deepak alias Deepak Pradhan, both from Kandhamal district in Odisha.
The case dates back to June 20, when Devunipalli police received information about a large consignment of ganja being transported from Odisha to Nashik in Maharashtra. Acting on the instructions of Kamareddy SP M. Rajesh Chandra, special teams conducted vehicle checks along NH-44.
A search near Royal Dhaba on the outskirts of Kyasampalli led to the interception of an Ashok Leyland Bada Dost vehicle. Police found jackfruits loaded on top, while bags containing ganja had been concealed underneath. Eight persons were arrested and remanded in the case.

SP Rajesh Chandra said police would continue surveillance, vehicle checks, naka bandis and special operations against drug trafficking. He said the PD Act would be invoked wherever necessary against offenders whose activities threatened public order.
He urged people to report information about ganja trafficking, sale or storage to the nearest police station or through Dial 112, assuring them that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
