BRS Tribal Leaders Mark Panchayat Status For 3,256 Thandas
The leaders performed ksheerabhishekam to the portrait of former Chief Minister and BRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao, expressing gratitude for the conversion of thandas into gram panchayats and saying it had improved tribal representation in local bodies.
NALGONDA: BRS tribal leaders organised celebrations in thandas across the erstwhile Nalgonda district on Thursday to mark four years since 3,256 thandas were converted into gram panchayats by the previous BRS government.
The leaders performed ksheerabhishekam to the portrait of former Chief Minister and BRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao, expressing gratitude for the conversion of thandas into gram panchayats and saying it had improved tribal representation in local bodies.
Participating in the celebrations at Govind Thanda in Bommala Ramaram mandal of Yadadri-Bhongir district, former MLA and BRS leader Gongidi Sunitha said the conversion of thandas into gram panchayats had contributed to their development by enabling them to directly access funds from the state and Central governments.
She said basic amenities and infrastructure in the thandas had subsequently improved. The gram panchayats were reserved for STs in local body elections, which increased their political representation, she said.
Sunitha also recalled the previous BRS government’s decision to increase ST reservation from 6 to 10 per cent.
In Nalgonda district, BRS tribal leaders held celebrations at Thanda Janku Thanda, Kalvapalli Jalubai Thanda, Dubba Thanda, Samyagani Thanda and Takkellapahad Thanda.
