Five-Year-Old Girl Dies After Suspected Insect Bite At Khammam Anganwadi
District welfare officer A. Prameela said an inquiry had been ordered into the girl’s death and action would be taken against the anganwadi staff if they were found guilty.
Nalgonda: A five-year-old girl died at a private hospital in Hyderabad on Monday night after she was reportedly bitten by a poisonous insect or snake at an anganwadi centre in Khanapuram Viswanadhapalli (KV Palli), in the seventh division of Khammam city.
The girl, daughter of Ayyadevara Ravi and Swapna, was a resident of Tekupally in Khammam.
She was shifted to Hyderabad on the advice of doctors at the Government General Hospital in Khammam.
According to her mother Swapna, she dropped the girl at the anganwadi centre at 9 am on Monday.
At 11.30 am, an anganwadi helper called to inform her that the child was unwell.
Swapna said she found rashes and bite marks on her daughter’s body.
Doctors at the Government General Hospital in Khammam suspected that the girl had been bitten by a poisonous insect or snake and advised that she be shifted to a hospital in Hyderabad.
She died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital on Monday night.
Swapna alleged that negligence by the anganwadi staff had led to her daughter’s death.
The centre has 30 children.
The anganwadi teacher had reportedly been on leave for the past few days, leaving the helper to manage the centre.
The girl’s parents, along with relatives and student union leaders, staged a protest on the Khammam bypass road at Tekupally, demanding action against the centre’s staff.
Police reached the spot and persuaded them to withdraw the protest, assuring them that the matter would be brought to the notice of senior officials.
District welfare officer A. Prameela said an inquiry had been ordered into the girl’s death and action would be taken against the anganwadi staff if they were found guilty.
