Farmers Urged To Adopt Water-Efficient Crops
The CMD also encouraged farmers to take up dairy farming, fisheries, sheep rearing and poultry as supplementary income sources.
Hyderabad:Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) chairman and managing director Jitesh V. Patil on Sunday advised farmers to explore alternative crops and allied activities requiring less water, lower investment and reduced labour to improve incomes amid changing weather and agricultural conditions.
Referring to weather variations and the possible impact of El Niño, Patil said farmers should adopt modern, water‑efficient cultivation practices suited to local conditions. He suggested cultivation of leafy vegetables, drumstick, vegetables and flowers on plots of one or two guntas, or on one or two acres, instead of relying solely on water‑intensive paddy.
The CMD also encouraged farmers to take up dairy farming, fisheries, sheep rearing and poultry as supplementary income sources. “Farmers can improve profitability by making efficient use of water, investment and labour,” he said, while assuring that TGSPDCL would continue to strengthen power supply services to the farm sector.
Accompanied by director (Projects and IT) V. Shivaji, Patil conducted surprise inspections at Raykal, Vityala and Rameshwaram villages in Shadnagar division of Ranga Reddy district. He reviewed agricultural power supply arrangements, inspected distribution transformers and discussed measures to ensure reliable, quality electricity to farmers.
He examined reasons for recurring transformer failures and line problems, and directed officials to strengthen maintenance, identify faults early and take timely corrective action to minimise interruptions in agricultural supply.
Patil also interacted with the R&D team of Kheyti on innovative farming practices for small landholdings, including crop diversification, reduced pesticide use and efficient water utilisation. At Vityala, he visited a dairy farm and enquired about cattle care, facilities and income generation.
Later, he met linemen and field staff, reviewed their challenges and instructed officials to resolve ground‑level issues and improve the efficiency of the distribution network. Shadnagar Rural DE Shyamsundar Reddy, AEs Satyanarayana, Shanmukh Reddy and Vinod, and other officials were present.
