Family Awaits Justice a Decade After Crash
Court records show that proceedings against accused R. Shravil have repeatedly been adjourned, with petitions pending on witness examination.
Hyderabad: Ten years after the Punjagutta road crash that killed nine‑year‑old Ramya, her uncle Rajesh and grandfather Madhusudhan Chary, the family is still awaiting justice as the criminal trial remains mired in delays.
The case, arising from the July 1, 2016 drunken‑driving incident, came up before the VII Additional Metropolitan Sessions Court on June 23. It was adjourned to July 9 after the prime accused’s counsel sought to conduct chief examination of witnesses together. In the connected case against Kancha Vishnu Vineeth alias Vishnu, the matter was also posted to July 9 for issuance of notice to sureties.
Court records show that proceedings against accused R. Shravil have repeatedly been adjourned, with petitions pending on witness examination.
Ramya’s father, Venkata Ramana Pammi, said every adjournment reopens wounds. “The accident claimed my daughter, father and younger brother. My wife Radhika and brother Ramesh sustained grievous injuries and underwent prolonged treatment,” he said.
Speaking ahead of the tenth anniversary, he said the family seeks lawful, timely justice, not revenge. They expressed disappointment that despite assurances of a speedy trial, proceedings continue even after a decade.
The family renewed its demand for the proposed Ramya Act, envisioned after the crash to strengthen safeguards against serving alcohol to minors and improve accountability in drunken‑driving cases. They said the issue extends beyond personal loss to public safety, child protection and timely justice for victims.
The 2016 crash sparked outrage after investigators alleged the accused, a minor at the time, consumed alcohol before driving without a licence, leading to the fatal collision. Charges were filed soon after, but justice remains elusive ten years later.
