Faculty Mentoring Programme Begins at NIT-W

Warangal: The National Institute of Technology Warangal on Monday inaugurated a two-day Faculty Upgradation Programme on “Strengthening Student Mental Well-being, Mentoring and Positive Campus Culture” at the Ambedkar Learning Centre.
Organised by the Centre for Mental Health and Wellness, the programme is aimed at equipping faculty with skills to strengthen student mentoring, promote mental well-being and foster a supportive campus environment.
Addressing the inaugural session, director Prof. Bidyadhar Subudhi said, " An institution’s true strength lies not just in academic excellence and research, but also in the care and support it provides to its students." He said the institute has consistently promoted holistic student development through structured mentoring, counselling and wellness initiatives.
He said, "Building a compassionate campus is a shared responsibility, and faculty members play a crucial role in creating an environment where students feel valued, supported and empowered to succeed." He added, "The programme will strengthen faculty mentoring skills and help build a healthier, more inclusive academic ecosystem."
Earlier, Prof. G. Amba Prasad Rao highlighted the need to strengthen faculty mentoring and promote student well-being through a positive campus culture. Dean (student welfare) prof. K. Kiran Kumar said student well-being is fundamental to academic success and called for an inclusive and empathetic learning environment.
Delivering the keynote address, Shri Girija Shankar Das spoke on "Lead Yourself Before Leading Others." He said, " Faculty members should cultivate self-awareness, emotional intelligence and purpose-driven leadership," and added that compassionate educators play a vital role in shaping confident and resilient students.
Around 370 faculty members are participating in the programme. Experts from Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad and YourDOST will conduct sessions on emotional intelligence, institutional mental health support and student mentoring practices on the second day.
