End of Maoism Frees Police Personnel, Vehicles for Redeployment in Telangana
Restructuring of Greyhounds and OCTOPUS withdrew 60 per cent additional pay for 573 personnel, who have since been redistributed across the needy departments
Hyderabad: Withdrawal of superfluous security following the end of Maoism freed not only the Telangana police personnel but also vehicles, which have been now redeployed in organisations where they are most needed.
As many as 376 personnel, 20 bullet-proof vehicles, seven Toyota Fortuners, 18 Innova Crystas and 58 other four-wheelers have been now redeployed, Director-General of Police CV Anand said here on Friday.
Restructuring of Greyhounds and OCTOPUS withdrew 60 per cent additional pay for 573 personnel, who have since been redistributed across the needy departments like ACB, CID, Narcotics, Cyber Security, Vigilance and Enforcement, Civil Supplies Enforcement, Food Adulteration, and Traffic and Road Safety.
This helped the police department in saving an estimated Rs.28.16 crore, and all other similar measures which have taken the net saving to around Rs.90 crore for the government.
“We also discussed rationalizing 93,000 sanctioned strength of Telangana police, as per present day requirements in needy organisations and new wings,” he explained.
The department continued the revival of tradition of holding monthly Staff Officers’ meetings with senior most officers of the department to discuss important policy measures initiated over the last few months and other administrative and operational issues facing the department.
The meeting also discussed the preparations to be made for the Southern States DGPs’ Conference (RPCC), which Telangana Police will host next month, electing new body for the State IPS Officers’ Association, rolling out of FitCop across the department to improve and monitor personnel health and wellbeing and following up last year’s TG Police Retreat and the agenda for this year.
The promotions of the 1991, 1995 and 1996 batches were discussed in length in addition to finalisation of new TG Police Manual and compendiums, IPS vacancies and postings, particularly IG rank and above and reorganisation issues in the four Commissionerates in the CURE area.
The community-connect programmes during the third week of October to commemorate Police Martyrs’ Day and many other budget and administrative issues concerning the department were also discussed.
Anand said these interactions would help senior police officers express their views on the issues so that administrative decisions are with consensus and are implemented with full commitment.
