Hyderabad: Nehru Zoological Park conducted an environment education and awareness programme, titled Animal Keepers’ Talk Show on Indian Elephants, on Wednesday as part of Day 3 of Praja Palana–Pragathi Pranalika.

Hyderabad Zoo is home to four Indian elephants—one male and three females — named Vijay, Vanaja, Asha and Sita. They are housed in one of the zoo’s largest moated open enclosures, spread over about eight acres.

Animal keepers Raju, Venkat Rao, Sunain and Abdul briefed visitors on the elephants’ lifestyle, behaviour, longevity and daily diet. They also highlighted that the elephants are unchained and are free to move across the enclosure without restriction.

Visitors expressed happiness at participating in the programme and said they gained useful insights about elephant care and behaviour through the awareness session.
