EC’s Distribution of Enumeration Forms Low in Adilabad Assembly Constituency
The total number of electors in the constituency is 2,50,393
ADILABAD: The distribution of enumeration forms by the Election Commission (EC) in the Adilabad assembly constituency as part of the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has been low, going by the records. The total number of electors in the constituency is 2,50,393.
However, only 1,64,113 forms have been distributed so far. Further, there are 1,03,970 voters in Adilabad Urban mandal, which comes under the Adilabad municipality with 49 wards. Only 53,432 enumeration forms have been distributed within the Adilabad Urban area as at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. According to rough estimates, there are nearly 50,000 Muslim electors in the Adilabad Urban mandal.
They are spread across Mavala and Adilabad Urban mandals. Distribution of enumeration forms is 48 per cent in Mavala and 51.4 per cent in Adilabad Urban mandal. However, 85.1 per cent of enumeration forms have been distributed in Bhoraj, 91.9 per cent in Jainad, 85.8 per cent in Sathnala, 71.2 per cent in Bela and the highest 94.1 per cent in Adilabad Rural mandal. Largely, distribution of enumeration forms is low in urban areas when compared to the rural and tribal areas of the Adilabad assembly constituency.
Booth-level officers (BLOs) are distributing the enumeration forms to voters under the household survey of the Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls process. Party booth-level agents (BLAs) are verifying the survey details. There are many migrants in Adilabad district, especially in the Adilabad town. Most of them are from the bordering Maharashtra. They have arrived in the town over the last 20 years for employment in cotton ginning mills, as agricultural labourers and as construction labour.
Many of them are settled in the slum areas of Adilabad town. The migrants are keen on enrolling their names on the electoral rolls during the ongoing special Intensive revision. Many of them have cast their votes in the past elections.
Migrant workers are filling their enumeration forms with the help of educated youth. Political parties, which consider migrant labourers as their vote bank, are helping them enrol themselves in the voters’ list through their ward councillors and local leaders. A senior political leader in Adilabad town said migrant labourers play a crucial role during elections in the Adilabad municipality as well as the town MLA seat.
There are a total of 2,28,916 electors in the Sirpur (T) Assembly constituency. Among them, enumeration forms till Tuesday have been distributed to 2,09,124, which is 91.35 per cent.
Meanwhile, there are a total of 2,26,680 electors in Asifabad Assembly constituency. Among them, enumeration forms have been distributed till Tuesday to 2,19,734, which is 96.94 per cent.
