HYDERABAD: Chevella Zone special operations team along with Shabad police arrested two men for allegedly transporting MDMA for illegal sale and seized 13.97 grams of the drug worth about ₹2 lakh.

The arrests followed a tip-off during a special operation near T-Time at Nagarkunta crossroads in Shabad. The accused were identified as Maram Vamshi Reddy and Beera Praveen Kumar, residents of Indira Reddy Nagar Colony in Mirzaguda, Shankarpally.

During questioning, the duo reportedly said they had purchased the drug from a person named Stephen in Bengaluru for ₹42,000 at ₹3,000 per gram. Police said they planned to sell it to students and software employees in Mokila, Kokapet and Nanakramguda. Police seized three mobile phones

Scholar Dies Of Chest Pain On Bus

HYDERABAD: A 33-year-old research scholar died after suffering chest pain while travelling on a private bus within Choutuppal police station limits late on Saturday.

The deceased, Gangavarapu Chaitanya of Nadendla village in Palnadu district, had lived in the United Kingdom for five years where he completed his graduation and master’s degree. He returned to Hyderabad two months ago and was pursuing higher studies while staying in a rented room.

On Friday, Chaitanya told his elder brother Avinash that he had been experiencing chest pain for two days and intended to return home. He boarded a bus operated by Lakshmi Kishore Travels for Chilakaluripet. Near Lakkaram bridge, he complained of chest pain to the helper. An ambulance was arranged near Valigonda X Road and he was taken to Choutuppal Government Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Police initiated legal action following a complaint from his brother.

MBBS student held for sexual assault

HYDERABAD, OCT. 11

A fourth-year MBBS student from a private medical college in Chevella was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a postgraduate student and blackmailing her with private photographs and videos.

According to police, the accused initially approached the woman under the pretext of seeking academic clarification. Their acquaintance developed, during which he assaulted her and recorded private material. He later pressured her to marry him and demanded money, threatening to misuse the content.

After the woman became engaged to another person, the accused sent her private photographs and videos to her fiancé. Distressed, she lodged a complaint with the help of her parents at a police station in Khammam district on Friday. A zero FIR was registered and transferred to Chevella police station. The accused was arrested, produced before court and remanded to judicial custody. His mobile phone was seized.

Headline: 265 booked in drunk‑driving cases

Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 265 individuals during a special weekend drunk‑and‑drive enforcement drive across the commissionerate limits. Among them were 237 two‑wheeler riders, five autorickshaw drivers, 20 car drivers and three heavy‑vehicle drivers.

Based on Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC), 219 individuals recorded levels between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml, 26 between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, and 20 between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml.

Meanwhile, courts disposed of 97 drunk‑driving cases last week. Cyberabad Traffic ADCP (Admin) Narender said 100 individuals were sentenced to fines and imprisonment, six to fines and social service, and 91 were fined.

Headliner: SHE Teams detain 55 for harassing women

Cyberabad SHE Teams said they had detained 55 persons for harassing women and indecent behaviour on the streets, registering nuisance cases against 48 of them. The action followed 34 complaints of harassment, some over the phone and others via social media. Police said the cases also included disputes between spouses, and efforts were made to reunite 32 families by resolving conflicts.

In a joint operation, the Cyberabad Anti‑Human Trafficking Unit and SHE Teams rescued three victims and took six accused into custody in two cases. Awareness programmes were conducted on issues including human trafficking, child labour, dowry, stalking, begging, cyber harassment and fraud.

Deputy commissioner of police (Women & Child Safety Wing) K. Srujana advised the public to save helpline numbers such as Women’s Helpline (181), Child Helpline (1098), emergency services (100/112) and Cyber Crime Helpline (1930). She said SHE Teams, led by sub‑inspector Ambika, are holding awareness meetings on women’s safety and actively addressing complaints.
