Drinking Water Supply Master Plan for Hyd Core Urban Region: CM Revanth

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed officials to prepare a comprehensive drinking water supply master plan for the Core Urban Region Economy (CURE), covering the GHMC, the three municipal corporations and merged municipalities, with uniformity in water supply across the entire region. The master plan should be designed to meet the drinking water requirements of Hyderabad and its expanding urban region for the next 50 years, he said.

In view of the prevailing rainfall deficit attributed to the El Nino effect, Revanth Reddy asked officials to pay special attention to drinking water supply and directed them to explore the interconnection of all drinking water sources around Hyderabad. Such connectivity would enable authorities to supply water from an alternative source to affected areas if supply from any one source is disrupted for any reason, he said.

The Chief Minister was speaking at meeting to review works being undertaken by the HMWS&SB. He observed that several areas under the GHMC had been receiving drinking water once every three or four days for years and made it clear that such a situation should not continue. He directed officials to immediately take steps to ensure water supply on alternate days in these areas. Revanth Reddy also instructed officials to complete all ongoing drinking water supply projects within one-and-a-half years without fail.

He reviewed the progress of sewage treatment plants (STPs) and directed officials to complete their construction within the stipulated timeframe. He asked officials to make efforts to resolve any legal issues affecting the projects at the earliest. The Chief Minister further directed officials to submit monthly reports on the progress of drinking water supply projects and STP construction and suggested setting up a dashboard to enable regular monitoring of the works.

He also called for framing and implementing regulations to ensure the use of grey water in industries and various construction activities in the coming days.

MA&UD special chief secretary Jayesh Ranjan, CM’s secretary Manicka Raj, HMWS&SB MD Ashok Reddy, JMD Mayank Mittal and others attended the review meeting.
