Hyderabad: A dispute over surgery performed on a pet cat reached the Chaitanyapuri police station after the woman owning the cat complained against the veterinarian.
Pendyala Sambhavi Devi, a resident of Vanasthalipuram, has a three-year-old male Persian cat. In August 2025, she took the cat to a pet clinic in Alkapur, where Dr. Kranti Kumar examined it and diagnosed a urinary problem. After the pet owner agreed, Dr. Kranti Kumar performed the first surgery the same day.
As the cat wriggled during the surgery, the pipe inserted moved a bit from its original position. The veterinarian performed a second operation and charged Sambhavi Devi for the same.
After paying the bill, she took her pet home. As days passed, she found that the condition of the cat had not improved.
In December, the pet owner returned to the clinic for further care, when the doctor performed a third surgery. But even after three surgeries, the cat’s health remained poor.
When Sambhavi Devi cited the repeated failures in her cat’s improvement, Dr. Kranti Kumar reportedly insulted her with abusive language and threatened to harm her if she returned.
On January 31, when the pet owner called the clinic, the doctor refused further treatment and demanded that she stop calling. Following this Sambhavi Devi has filed a complaint with the Chaitanyapuri police.
Police have registered a case with charges of threatening, criminal intimidation and insult and have issued notices to Dr. Kranti Kumar.
