Devotees, Ganesh Pandal Organisers Stage Sit-In Over Alleged Police Action
Ganesh pandal organisers and devotees staged a sit-in in Adilabad alleging police action during the Ganesh Shobha Yatra.
Some devotees and Ganesh pandal organisers staged a sit-in at Ambedkar Chowk on Saturday, alleging that police had stopped the power supply, seized DJs and arrested a few youths participating in the Ganesh Shobha Yatra in Adilabad town in the early hours.
Adilabad collector Rajarshi Shah and SP Akhil Mahajan intervened and pacified the organisers and devotees, assuring them that cases would not be booked against the protesters.
Many vehicles carrying Ganesh idols had already crossed Adilabad town by then, while the remaining vehicles moved ahead following the officials' assurance.
The pandal organisers had stopped their vehicles for some time and refused to proceed towards the Penganga river for immersion of the Ganesh idols.
Police had asked the organisers to reach Ambedkar Chowk by midnight so that all vehicles could cross Adilabad town by early morning. However, there was a considerable delay in the vehicles reaching the chowk.
