Dead Flies, Expired Food, Synthetic Colours Found During Raids on Medchal Eateries

Hyderabad: Dead flies, expired food items, synthetic food colours and hygienic conditions were noticed during raids carried out by the food safety teams of Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) at three eateries in Medchal and its surroundings.

The teams recommended improvement notices to the eateries and asked the management to take corrective measures on priority.

At Baisakhi family dhaba in Kandlakoya at Medchal, the team found expired baby corn and black pepper masala in addition to synthetic food colours used in Chinese food items. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and trade licences were not displayed at the premises.

Medical fitness, pest control, and water testing records were not maintained and the kitchen was open to the outside environment without protective mesh. Open dustbins and unlabelled semi-prepared food items were found apart from dead flies inside the refrigerator.

Rusted iron knives were used for food preparation. The team discarded expired food items, synthetic food colours, and rusted iron knives.

In a separate inspection at Old Trees Cafe (OTS) at Kandlakoya in Medchal, the team found expired sweet sauce and yellow curry paste. The medical fitness certificates of food handlers were unavailable and dustbins were found without proper lids. Water analysis report for food preparation was unavailable.

In yet another inspection at Kwickbox Retail Private Limited (Instamart) in Gajularamaram, the team detected expired cheese, yogurt smoothie, and paneer. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items were stored together. Cold room was maintained in an untidy and disorganized condition.

The medical fitness certificates of food handlers were unavailable and the First In, First Out (FIFO) and First Expired, First Out (FEFO) practices were not followed properly. There was no designated area for expired or damaged food products.
