DC Report Prompts GHMC Action, Contractor Fined Rs 5,000 for Debris Dumping

Hyderabad:Following Deccan Chronicle publishing a photograph, titled 'Debris Trouble' in these columns on Saturday, the GHMC penalised a contactor working for the HMWS&SB for ignoring debris on the Chikadpally road after carrying work.
Upon publication of the picture, the GHMC contacted the HMWS&SB manager and deployed the corporation's sanitation supervisor and sanitary field assistant inspected the location. It was observed that debris —excavated road material, road-cutting waste — generated during water connection works executed by the HMWS&SB contractor had been left on the roadside, causing inconvenience to commuters and affecting road cleanliness.

The corporation said responsibility for the improper disposal of excavation waste was fixed on the HMWS&SB contractor, and a penalty of Rs 5,000 was imposed as per the applicable municipal regulations. The agency was instructed to adhere to waste disposal guidelines. Instructions had been issued to ensure continuous supervision of the area and necessary measures taken.
