DC Impact | HYDRAA Warns of Dumping Debris in Water Bodies
HYDRAA requested people to come forward and inform them about dumping of silt into lakes
Hyderabad: HYDRAA has warned truckers and real estate developers of strict action if they are caught dumping silt, soil, construction debris, rocks or trash into lakes, water bodies or shikam lands.
After Deccan Chronicle reported on May 16 about construction debris being dumped into Jonnabanda Cheruvu in Alwal, HYDRAA authorities held a meeting with builders, real estate companies, transporters and truckers on Saturday, and told them that criminal cases would be booked against them if they were caught dumping debris into lakes.
HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath, who chaired the meeting, told the truckers that their vehicles would be seized and criminal cases booked at the new HYDRAA police station. He also stated that HYDRAA will track down where the vehicle brought the debris from, and based on further investigations, book criminal cases on the builders and construction site owners as well.
Ranganath told them that construction debris and silt cannot be dumped into shikam land. He informed that 24 hours vigilance will be mounted at lakes and water bodies to protect them.
A HYDRAA official, speaking with Deccan Chronicle, said “Many of them dump soil, rocks and construction debris into lakes to avoid transport charges. Some of them even do it to encroach on the lake land too. We will depute officials to the spot and will book charges against parties dumping into lakes.”
HYDRAA requested people to come forward and inform them about dumping of silt into lakes. People can either call them on 9000113667, or tag HYDRAA on X to inform authorities about dumping of debris.
