HYDERABAD: The Bharatiya Janata Party for the second day in a row walked out of the Telangana Legislative Assembly on issues related to Section 22A of the Registration Act, demanding that the government clearly state when it would hold a discussion on the matter.

BJP MLAs, led by their floor leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy, soon after Tuesday’s session began walked into the well of the House holding placards demanding a discussion on Section 22A.

Though Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, referring to legislative affairs minister D Sridhar Babu’s assurance that the government would hold a short discussion on the matter, said that this was also agreed to by the business advisory council on Monday, and called on the BJP members return to their seats. They instead squatted on the floor and refused to move.

Following this, the Speaker instructed the Assembly marshals to collect all the placards from the BJP members, as well as from the BRS members who too were holding up placards on the alleged mishandling of their women MLAs by the police on Monday.

Soon after, the Speaker, following the storming into the well by BRS deputy floor leader T. Harish Rao, adjourned the House. When it reconvened in the afternoon, Maheshwar Reddy, demanded a categorical assurance from the government on when it will hold the promised discussion on Section 22A. He then said his party was walking out in protest against the government’s failure to give that assurance.
