Hyderabad: Former MLA Danam Nagender on Thursday threatened that Hyderabad could face turmoil and the Election Commission office could be set ablaze if the Election Commission did not mend its ways over the deletion of votes.

Calling it ‘vote chori’, Nagender alleged that 20,000 genuine electors had been removed from the rolls in the Khairatabad Assembly constituency during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 and demanded that their names be restored. He also recalled that the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had repeatedly expressed anguish over the issue.

The former Khairatabad legislator, who was disqualified for defecting to the Congress from the BRS, also alleged that assistant municipal commissioners (AMCs) and assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs) have colluded with the BJP in deleting votes.

“I will lodge a complaint with the Election Commission. A few AMCs and AROs have colluded with the BJP to delete voters. Criminal cases should be booked against them,” he asserted.

“The deleted 20,000 votes should be added back. This is a demand, failing to do so, this agitation will continue, as mentioned by Rahul Gandhi,” he added.

Nagender alleged that electoral data was being uploaded online and that the state had no control once it was uploaded. He claimed that votes were subsequently being deleted in New Delhi.

He further alleged that the deletion of votes was taking place without the approval of AMCs or AEROs and that the process was being controlled and monitored from Delhi. “This conspiracy is happening on a large scale and action should be initiated on it,” Nagender said.
