Telangana High Court

Hyderabad:The Telangana High Court has directed for the response from the state education department and the central board of secondary education (CBSE) on the action taken against private schools, allegedly imposing unauthorised curricula and non-NCERT textbooks on students, while charging exorbitant amounts for study material.

Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar also directed for the details on whether private schools are complying with the mandatory requirement of constituting school management committees, school governing bodies and parent-teacher associations, under the applicable state and CBSE rules. The Judge was hearing a petition filed by parent Bolleddu Joshua, a government employee, who requested the court to issue directions to CBSE to ensure that its affiliated schools adhere to NCERT textbooks and comply with the CBSE bylaws and provisions of the right to education act, 2009.

The petition specifically challenged the textbooks being taught by Don Bosco School at Motinagar and other CBSE schools, alleging that they were contrary to the prescribed norms. It sought action against the schools and exemplary costs of Rs 5 lakh for allegedly imposing unauthorised study material.

The petitioner also alleged that CBSE had failed to act against the schools, which were using their own textbooks and study material and sought a declaration that such inaction was illegal and negligent, besides seeking costs of Rs 10 lakh against the Board.
