Cybercrime Losses In Telangana Drop 20.2% To ₹881 Cr In First 9 Months
Reported cybercrime losses fell by ₹222.70 crore, while funds frozen in suspected fraudsters' accounts rose 42.2% during January–September 2026.
Cybercrime-related financial losses in Telangana have declined by 20.2 per cent during the first nine months of the year compared with the corresponding period last year, as the state concluded its Cyber Security Awareness Month in October with statewide night flash walks and public outreach programmes.
The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) said that the data for the first nine months showed reported cybercrime-related financial losses falling from `1,104.42 crore between January and September 2025 to `881.72 crore during the corresponding period in 2026, a reduction of `222.70 crore, TGCSB director Shikha Goel, said.
At the same time, the amount placed under lien in suspected fraudsters bank accounts increased by 42.2 per cent, rising from `183.11 crore to `260.30 crore. The increase of `77.19 crore, police said, reflected quicker reporting and coordinated financial intervention to prevent further losses.
The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) said its October campaign focused on educating citizens about emerging cyber threats, fraud prevention and safe digital practices. Police units across the state organised awareness programmes in educational institutions, public spaces and community gatherings throughout the month.
Outreach activities were also conducted during Bathukamma celebrations, Navaratri festivities and Dandiya programmes to spread practical messages regarding cyber safety among different sections of society. The campaign concluded with statewide cyber security night flash walks and associated public awareness activities.
The TGCSB said cybercrime awareness was being pursued as a sustained initiative throughout the year rather than being restricted to a single month. It has adopted modus operandi-based and victim-group-based strategies to educate vulnerable sections about fraud methods, warning signs and preventive measures.
Initiatives including ‘Online but Unafraid’, ‘Suraksha Ka Tiranga’ and ‘Pause. Think. Verify’, under the ‘Fraud ka Fullstop’ campaign, were also used to strengthen public outreach and community participation.
Up to October, police conducted 24,886 awareness programmes, reaching 15,48,905 citizens across Telangana. October alone accounted for 4,248 programmes, engaging 2,78,428 participants.
“We will intensify cyber awareness using the most advanced technology throughout the year, with a focus on emerging fraud methods and vulnerable groups,” Goel added. She urged citizens to remain vigilant and report financial cyber fraud immediately by calling 1930 or visiting www.cybercrime.gov.in. She also advised the public not to share OTPs, PINs or passwords, and to follow the message.
