Cyberabad Police Bust ₹77 Lakh Cyber Fraud Racket

Cyberabad cybercrime police busted an organised inter state cyber fraud racket involved in vishing, SIM manipulation and fraudulent online banking transactions, with the total fraud amount pegged at ₹77.75 lakh.
Officials said a case was registered at the Central Crime Police Station (CCPS) under relevant sections of the BNS and the IT Act. The gang targeted victims by impersonating officials from the a MNC credit card division and tricked them into converting e SIMs into physical SIM cards under the guise of department of telecommunications (DoT) verification.
As part of the fraud, the accused dispatched preloaded mobile devices containing malicious applications to victims through courier services. Once victims inserted SIM cards into these devices, OTPs and banking alerts were diverted to the accused, enabling unauthorised access to bank accounts and fraudulent online transactions.
Police arrested the prime accused, Selim Mondal (30), a cellphone shop owner from Nadia district in West Bengal, on May 11 through a transit warrant and remanded him to judicial custody. During custody, officials recovered ₹7 lakh cash from his residence in West Bengal on May 30.
Earlier, police had recovered ₹15 lakh from two other accused persons in the same case. A total of six accused persons have been apprehended in connection with the racket.
Cyberabad police advised citizens not to share OTPs, banking credentials or SIM related information with unknown callers and warned against inserting SIM cards into unverified courier delivered devices. Further investigation is underway.
Alert conductor helps police seize ganja
Srikanth, a private travels bus conductor who helped police seize 18 kg of ganja worth nearly ₹20 lakh by alerting authorities about a suspicious bag at Miyapur Metro Rail station was felicitated by Kukatpally DCP Ritiraj.
According to police, the incident occurred on Saturday night around 8 pm when six unidentified persons attempted to transport a bag while boarding a private bus bound for Shirdi via Aurangabad from Miyapur Metro station. Conductor Srikanth grew suspicious after noticing the behaviour of the group and questioned them about the contents of the bag.
When the six men failed to give satisfactory answers and fled, abandoning the bag, he took the luggage to Miyapur police station and informed officials. In the presence of mediators, police conducted a panchnama and examined the bag, which was found to contain approximately 18 kg of ganja, estimated to be worth nearly ₹20 lakh.
Miyapur police registered a case and launched an investigation. Special teams have been formed to trace and apprehend the six suspects involved in the attempted transportation of the narcotic substance.
Minor girl ends life after harassment
A minor girl died by suicide at Singareni Colony here following alleged harassment by a stalker who demanded that she enter into a relationship with him, Saidabad police said on Monday. According to the victim’s parents, she had disclosed that she was upset over the mental harassment by the accused, who lives in the same locality.
A suicide note reportedly written by the victim stated the youth had been harassing her for the past three months, proposing marriage despite her repeated refusals, police said. Following her death, family members and relatives urged police to take stern action against the accused and his friends.
Police have taken up the case and are examining the contents of the note as part of the investigation. After post mortem at OGH, the victim’s body was handed over to her family members.
