Cyberabad EOW Case: Director G Ashok Babu Accused of Rs 3.5 Cr Fraud

Based on the father's complaint, EOW police registered a case and began an investigation. Director Ashok Babu and several other persons connected with the financial transactions were reportedly questioned on Friday.

Hyderabad: Cyberabad Economic Offences Wing (EOW) police have registered a case against prominent Telugu film director Gudluri Ashok Babu on charges of cheating a couple by taking money from them while promising to make their son a lead hero.

According to police, the case was filed based on a complaint by the youth's father, Hanumanth Rao. The complainant alleged that the director promised to launch his son as a film hero and collected Rs 3.5 crore from him from 2024 till January this year, and also promised a partnership, but failed to keep the promise or return the money. As per the complaint, the victim's father stated that director Ashok Babu assured him that he would introduce his son as a lead actor when he questioned him about the money. However, the son was not launched as promised, nor was the money returned.

Following this, the family approached the police. Based on the complaint, EOW police registered a case and began an investigation. As part of the probe, director Ashok Babu, his wife Vijaya, and several other persons connected with the financial transactions were reportedly questioned on Friday.

Gudluri Ashok Babu joined the Telugu film industry as a child artist in 1986 and later worked as a dance assistant and
 choreographer for over 300 films before getting into filmmaking. Ashok made his directorial debut with Ushodayam in 2007, which won him the Nandi Award for Best Children's Film Director. He went on to direct films such as Aakasa Ramanna, Pilla Zamindar with Nani, Sukumarudu, Chitrangada, and Bhaagamathie with Anushka Shetty. He also directed two Hindi films- Kuch Khattaa Ho Jaay (2024) and Ufff Yeh Siyapaa last year.
