Hyderabad:A local fast-track Pocso court sentenced a 26-year-old man to three years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 following his conviction for stalking, threatening and sexually harassing a minor girl.
According to officials, the accused, Swami, targeted a ninth-grade student by obtaining her contact information through classmates. He repeatedly pressured her to meet him outside school premises and issued self-harm threats when she refused. Although the harassment briefly halted after the initial warning by her parents, the accused resumed targeting the victim two years later via WhatsApp and Instagram, where he even demanded explicit photographs.
The harassment escalated in May 2024, when Swami contacted the victim’s father, issuing threats to abduct the girl once she turned eighteen. Following a formal complaint by the victim’s family, Shivampet police registered a case under relevant sections of the POCSO Act and Indian Penal Code. Following the chargesheet and trial, Judge R.M. Subhavali delivered the verdict.
