Congress Stages Protest Over Alleged Irregularities in Voter Rolls

Hanamkonda:The Hanamkonda District Congress Committee staged a protest on Monday alleging irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls under the special intensive revision (SIR) exercise. DCC president Engala Venkatram Reddy led the protest, in which Warangal West MLA Naini Rajender Reddy, Warangal MP Kadiyam Kavya and Parkal MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy participated.
Congress workers took out a rally from the Arts and Science College auditorium to the Hanamkonda collectorate, raising slogans and carrying placards. They later staged a sit-in outside the collectorate and burnt an effigy of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The leaders submitted a memorandum to Hanamkonda collector Chahat Bajpai seeking a comprehensive inquiry into changes made to the electoral rolls and action against those responsible.
Venkatram Reddy alleged that the Election Commission had taken unilateral decisions during the SIR process. He claimed that additions and deletions of names in the electoral rolls were carried out despite objections from Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi. He demanded a detailed inquiry and called for criminal cases and the arrest of CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
