Congress Govt Responsible For Coal, Power, Irrigation Srises: KTR
BRS working president calls for probe led by sitting judge into Singareni, foreign coal imports: Reports
WARANGAL: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Friday blamed the Congress government for the crises facing Telangana in the coal, power and irrigation sectors.
Rama Rao demanded that chief minister A Revanth Reddy order an inquiry by a sitting judge into alleged irregularities in Singareni Collieries, proposed foreign coal purchases and other financial “scandals.” He accused the Congress government of betraying unemployed youth, students and graduates, asserting that the party would be taught a lesson in the upcoming Graduate MLC elections.
Addressing a meeting of BRS leaders from the Narsampet assembly constituency at Telangana Bhavan on Friday, KTR challenged the government to order an inquiry into allegations of a ₹10,000-crore scam in Singareni and the solar power agreements. He pointed out that Singareni coal was available at around ₹3,800 per tonne, while imported coal would cost between ₹10,000 and ₹12,000 per tonne.
“Despite the availability of domestic coal, the government was attempting to procure coal from Australia, allegedly to take commissions,” he alleged.
The BRS leader criticised the government for failing to clear dues payable to Singareni, thereby pushing the public sector company into difficulties.
Describing Revanth Reddy as an ‘EMI chief minister’, KTR alleged that plans to purchase foreign coal were aimed at meeting the political obligations of the Congress high command. Recalling that the previous BRS government had provided 24-hour power supply, he questioned why the state was now facing power shortages.
“With nearly 30 lakh agricultural pump sets dependent on electricity, ensuring uninterrupted power supply to farmers is the government’s responsibility,” he said.
KTR also accused the Congress government of failing to utilise water from the Kaleshwaram project effectively, alleging that nearly 1,000tmc of water had flown into the sea. He urged the government to take concrete measures to provide irrigation water to farmers instead of citing El Niño as an excuse.
“This is not a drought caused by nature, but a drought created by the Congress,” he remarked.
Angry young people: KTR said graduates, unemployed youth and students were angry with the Congress government. He alleged that the government had betrayed young people by failing to issue the necessary job recruitment notifications and fulfill its promises. The Congress government had also pushed the education sector into a crisis, he charged.
As part of preparations for the upcoming Graduate MLC elections, KTR held a review meeting with BRS MLAs and senior leaders from the erstwhile Warangal district at Telangana Bhavan. He instructed party leaders to ensure that every eligible graduate was enrolled as a voter and urged them to take the registration drive seriously.
Calling for coordinated efforts by party leaders and workers, he asked them to work collectively to secure the party’s victory in the elections.
KTR asserted that the BRS would continue its fight to protect Singareni, ensure uninterrupted power supply, secure irrigation water for farmers and safeguard their welfare.
